On Friday night, July 14th at Allstate Arena, the Chicago Sky won their second WNBA title in 3 years with a 71-55 victory over the Minnesota Lynx. The Sky swept both of its opponents on the way to this year's finals, defeating the Seattle Storm and Los Angeles Sparks.
It was an up and down game for both teams, but it was clear early on who would win after the first quarter. By halftime, the score was 46-32 in favor of Chicago. Minnesota fought hard throughout the game to cut this huge deficit, outscoring Chicago 30-19 in that third quarter; however, it wasn't enough as they were ultimately defeated by 16 points.
Chicago's center Sylvia Fowles had a dominant game, finishing with 29 points and 14 boards. Her WNBA Finals MVP trophy was proof of that. Fowles averaged 19.7 ppg in the finals, almost doubling her regular season average of 11.9 ppg.
